Akkineni's debut film as a full-fledged lead was [[V. V. It released on 22 December 2017, along with ''[[Middle Class Abbayi]]'' and turned out to be a below par grosser at the box-office, despite garnering good reviews. Akkineni's latest project, ''[[Mr. Majnu]]'', is directed by Venky Atluri and co stars [[Niddhi Agerwal]]. It released on 25 January 2019. Currently he's working on his fourth film titled as [[Most Eligible Bachelor]], starring [[Pooja Hegde]] and produced by [[Geetha Arts]] Bunny Vas and Vasu Varma, directed by [[Bhaskar (director)]]. Akhil Akkineni is the son of actors [[Akkineni Nagarjuna|Nagarjuna]] and [[Amala (actress)|Amala]], the grandson of actor [[Akkineni Nageswara Rao|Nageswara Rao]], and half-brother of [[Naga Chaitanya]]. His sister-in-law [[Samantha Akkineni|Samantha]] is also an actor. Akkineni pursued acting at the [[Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute]] before making his debut in films in 2014 through a cameo in ''[[Manam (film)|Manam]]''.
